Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan believes Adam Idah is now fighting for his Parkhead future, warning the Irish striker has just four weeks to prove he can lead the line before the transfer window closes.

Despite netting 20 goals last season in all competitions, Idah’s performances have raised eyebrows. He looked off the pace in pre-season and failed to make a significant impact in Celtic’s narrow 1-0 win over St Mirren on opening day. It’s not a new thing that’s started this season, a lot of fans were noticing it last term.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Allan delivered a blunt assessment of the striker’s situation: “It’s a big four weeks for Idah until the window closes. He has four weeks to show. Is he ready to be the number one striker for Celtic?
“If not, then I think you will see someone coming in that position. You will see them spend a considerable amount of money on that position as well in the next four weeks, if he doesn’t get off to the start that he was expected to.”
Celtic paid £9 million to bring Idah in permanently following a productive loan spell, but the expectation was that he would kick on and establish himself as the club’s focal point in attack. So far, he’s struggled to hit the same rhythm, and with the Champions League play-offs on the horizon, Celtic can ill afford to be short up front.
While there’s been no suggestion that the club are actively looking to move the striker on, the lack of cutting edge up top remains a concern and Idah now has a limited window to show Brendan Rodgers he can be trusted as Celtic’s first-choice striker.
