It’s been a chaotic final stretch of the transfer window for Celtic, particularly in their bid to land a new striker.
At one stage on deadline day, it looked as if Kasper Dolberg was on the verge of joining Brendan Rodgers’ side. The Denmark international, currently at Anderlecht, had emerged as Celtic’s top target, with reports of talks progressing and a bid submitted. However, any hope of completing the deal was dashed when Dolberg rejected a move to Glasgow, favouring a return to Ajax instead, the club where he made his name.
The collapse of the Dolberg deal threw Adam Idah’s transfer into uncertainty. The Irishman had travelled to Wales over the weekend to complete the first part of a medical with Swansea City, only to be recalled by Celtic when it became clear that a new striker might not arrive in time.
Idah was then left out of the squad for Sunday’s derby clash with Rangers, and by Sunday night had returned south to resume and finalise his move to the Championship side.
Despite concerns the Dolberg saga might scupper Idah’s exit, Wales Online reports that Swansea “remain confident the move will still happen, regardless of the outcome in Celtic’s chase for Dolberg.”
Celtic now face entering the rest of the season without a marquee replacement for Kyogo, with Idah also away.
With hours left in the window, all eyes are on whether the club can produce a last-minute solution.
