Chris Sutton was full of praise for Celtic’s strength in depth after a much-changed side swept Aberdeen aside 5-1 at Pittodrie on Wednesday night.

The former Celtic striker took to social media after the game to highlight what was effectively a second-string Hoops team comfortably dispatching the Dons, raising serious questions about what awaits Aberdeen when the sides meet again at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup Final later this month.
“Celtic’s second string too good for Aberdeen. Great night for Johnny Kenny. Lovely moment for him. James Forrest is the most underrated Celtic player in my memory. Absolutely phenomenal,” Sutton posted on X.
The Hoops had the game under control from the off, with Maik Nawrocki and Yang Hyun-jun netting first-half goals to put Brendan Rodgers’ side in command. In the second half, Luke McCowan, Johnny Kenny, and Adam Idah added further gloss to the scoreline. For Kenny, it was a night to remember as he grabbed his first senior goal for Celtic, capitalising on a rare opportunity to impress.
Rodgers had rotated heavily with the Premiership title already secured, but the performance only reinforced the level of quality throughout the squad. Sutton’s comments on James Forrest reflect a growing recognition of the winger’s contribution this season. Forrest, who created the most chances on the night, again showed his value despite not getting on the scoresheet.
The ease of victory also poses a worrying prospect for Aberdeen fans. Celtic dominated despite key figures sitting out, with the cup final just around the corner.
Celtic’s focus now turns to a trophy day party at Celtic Park on Saturday against St Mirren, before they bid for a sixth Treble in nine years at Hampden later this month.
