NEIL LENNON didn’t miss the mark when he was asked to comment on social media posts made by Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack. The Dons chief posted an ill advised rant about the Celtic game last weekend and claimed Ajer had cheated to get Sam Cosgrove sent off.
Aberdeen filed a fast track appeal for Sam Cosgrove after his suspension and were hoping to have him back for the last two games of 2019 – however, common sense prevailed and the suspension was upheld. The striker knew what he was doing and ran over to Kristoffer Ajer in frustration in a corner of the pitch you wouldn’t expect that sort of challenge to be made.
“Sam will take his ban, but the compliance officer has a duty to review Ajer feigning injury with his triple salvo (sic) and miraculous recovery after Sam gets the red.” Cormack Wrote.
He didn’t need to take the player out the game for the referee and an appeals banner to see the recklessness of the challenge.
The comments on Twitter were unprofessional and Neil Lennon absolutely slaughtered Cormack as reported by The Scotsman.
“It’s absolutely embarrassing.
“I’m not having that at all. Kris Ajer is the victim in this and was on the end of a very heavy challenge.
“There was no feigning injury, there was no play-acting. Kris is a model professional and I am not having someone from the Aberdeen board, or anyone else, talking about my players like that.
“First of all, it isn’t true – it’s a lie. Second of all, these things should be kept in-house.
“We have been very balanced on the whole issue and have tried to play it down. But when you see comments like that coming out from the Aberdeen chairman, we are not tolerating it as a club – and I’m not as a manager.
“Every team in the country would want Kris Ajer – he’s a model professional on and off the pitch.
“It’s very naive from Mr Cormack. I’m hugely disappointed. It’s an attack on my player and he has done nothing wrong.
“The comments are absolutely disgraceful.”
Neil Lennon spoke about this before his side’s 2-1 win against St Mirren on Boxing day to stay five points clear at the top of the table.
The Champions now head back to Celtic Park for a Glasgow Derby showdown.
