Aberdeen Captain Makes Bold Ange Postecoglou Claim

Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie reckons that Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are better than any previous Hoops side he has came up against, including Brendan Rodgers’.

Shinnie rejoined the Dons in January on a short loan until the end of the season, but having spent four years at Pittodrie under Derek McInnes there was many a tight battle between both sides.

During those years, his side challenged the Hoops for the title and went up against each other in a number of cup finals. The most memorable one of those was undoubtedly the dramatic 2017 Scottish Cup final when Rodgers side completed a historic Invincible treble.

Under Postecoglou, the Hoops are still on track to possibly finish with a record points tally set six years ago and could still break the clubs goalscoring records which was set in season 1915/16 at 116 league goals.

It is always a good barometer to hear from former players who have had the experience of playing against a Rodgers and Postecoglou Celtic team. Although Aberdeen got thumped 4-0, Shinnie hinted that the current team are superior to Rodgers side.

He was left very impressed by the side which he came up against and just had to hold his hands up that the Dons were beaten by the better team.

“The manager has them playing a different style of football to what I have been used to, going there, especially,” said Shinnie as quoted by [Football Scotland].

“They have inverted full-backs and try to make overloads in areas of the pitch.

“I thought they were very good. I played against Brendan Rodgers’ teams who were very dominant and very good, but I feel this Celtic side is very impressive.”
