A Week Late: Sky Sports Man’s Fresh Attack on Celtic Star

WHILE the rest of us get on with the games coming thick and fast, Sky Sports man and former Celt Davie Provan wants to dwell on an incident which wasn’t deemed worthy of any action by a referee and a panel of referees.

However, with space to fill in his column, seven days after the incident, Davie has decided to be the last person to have a go at Leigh Griffiths for a stamp which wasn’t a stamp.

Provan likes to see himself as impartial or someone who calls it down the middle but he goes so far the other way sometimes it’s a little pathetic. To have this in the cannon for a whole week before delivering it to his SunSport column because he couldn’t think of anyone else to attack is poor by the co-commentator.

Speaking about the incident, Provan said Leigh was lucky and the Celtic manager was basically lying in his post-match press conference.

“LEIGH GRIFFITHS says he doesn’t know how to repay Neil Lennon for the faith he’s shown in him.

“He could start by trying to stay on the pitch. Mr Angry needs a word with himself.

“Asked for his opinion on the striker leaving one on Accies’ Sam Woods, Lennon said the striker’s foot got stuck, that there was no intent.

“Lenny should get an award for delivering that line with a straight face.

“Had Griffiths been on the ground taking Woods’ studs on his chest, Lenny would have demanded a jail sentence.

“If Walsh had done his job properly, Griff would have been sent off, changing the complexion of the game. He wouldn’t have been around at Fir Park in midweek where he scored again.”

Leigh Griffiths spoke about the incident last week:

“It was a coming-together. I never meant to stamp on him at all.” Griffiths told CelticTV.

“As I was on my way down I caught my foot and there was no other place I could plant it.

“But it was never going to be intentional, I’m not that type of player.”
