‘A Lot of Goals Gone’ – Brendan Rodgers Urges Celtic to Act Fast

Celtic are stepping up their summer plans as Brendan Rodgers confirmed that fresh signings are in motion.

The club are nearing an agreement for Shin Yamada, with the Japanese striker set to make the switch from Kawasaki Frontale in a deal valued at around £1.5 million.

Rodgers is also aiming to strengthen out wide after the departure of Nicolas Kühn to Italian side Como for £17 million. Royal Antwerp’s Michel Ange-Balikwisha is one of the names being linked, as the Hoops look to inject more threat into the attack ahead of the new season.

Losing Kyogo in January and now Kühn has stripped the side of two big attacking threats. Rodgers has stressed the importance of replacing that goal threat and says the recruitment team are working behind the scenes to bring in the right players.

He didn’t confirm specific targets, but made it clear that more firepower is needed.

He said: (RecordSport), “I think there’s work going on behind the scenes. It’s clear we need to improve the squad. A lot of work is going on behind the scenes, there are loads of names floating about.

“I think the positions you’ve mentioned, we’re clear that we need to improve our frontline.

“We lost Kyogo in January and another player with Nicolas gone. That’s a lot of goals that’s gone out of the team.

“So for us, we need to strengthen that area of the field. But the guys back home are working hard on that.”

Celtic have lost two key players who brought goals to the side, with Kyogo leaving in January and Nicolas Kühn now gone as well. With both attackers out the door, Brendan Rodgers needs to bring in new options to keep the team sharp.

Adding Shin Yamada would bring something different to the attack, though he’ll need time to settle into Scottish football. Rodgers also wants to add wide players, with the money from Kühn’s transfer helping open the door for more deals.

Fans will be watching carefully to see who comes in next. There’s hope for strong signings, but Rodgers knows he needs to follow through and add real quality up front. He says work is being done behind the scenes, and supporters will expect to see that effort pay off soon.

The next few weeks will be important. Will Yamada be confirmed, and can the club move quickly for a winger or two?
