Celtic defeated Rangers by three goals to two at the weekend as Ange Postecoglou’s men moved a mammoth twelve points clear at the top of the table.
And following the Hoops’ key triumph, club icon Chris Sutton has heavily criticised his ex-club’s city rivals’ mentality following derby games.
We all know that, particularly under Michael Beale, Rangers like to do a lot of talking, whether it be before or after a Glasgow derby. As Sutton put it, we heard we’ll see the real Rangers at Hampden following the New Year draw at Ibrox and that it’ll be a different story at Celtic Park after the Gers’ cup final loss.
Sutton has greatly criticised this mentality in his latest Daily Record column:
“It just baffles me the rhetoric from Rangers after these games as it’s the same all the time.
“It’s just the same old story.”
Most Celtic fans would agree Sutton is spot on with these comments. Nowadays, it appears Celtic have rattled the cages of their rivals so badly that they cannot simply take pride in defeat.

This was once more the case on Saturday as Todd Cantwell said that Celtic didn’t win and that Rangers lost the game. Despite Cantwell backtracking on these comments later, Sutton said:
“And Cantwell coming out and saying Celtic didn’t win it is back in Fashion Sakala territory. If you are in that Celtic dressing room, you’d stick that away and remember it for cup week.”
Although the focus for Celtic will be on their football in the coming weeks, when the Scottish Cup semi-final rolls around, Cantwell’s comments will undoubtedly be remembered.
This provided the Bhoys with even more motivation as they look to take another step closer to the treble.
