Ange Aiming To Smash Record Held By Invincibles

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou wants his side to break the European record for the number of points won in a league season.

The Hoops have amassed 85 points so far in 2022/23 following a 2-0 victory over Ross County on Sunday. The current record for points won in a single campaign stands at 106 and Postecoglou wants his players to win every league game between now and the end of the season in order to magnificently surpass this tally and take them to 109 points.

The current record itself is actually held by Brendan Rodgers Invincibles side therefore breaking this would make the Ange’s team team one of the finest in Celtic history.

Postecoglou told The Scottish Sun:

“It is a remarkable run because there have been some brilliant sides in scottish football.

“but this team has surpassed those in terms of stats this season. now it’s with eight games to go, so there are 24 points we want to get and that’s our target”

Winning every single league game between now and the end of the campaign is certainly an ambitious target but it is not one Celtic are not capable of doing. After all, they are currently on a 10 game win streak in the league having lost only one in the Premiership thus far.

Postecoglou added much credit goes to his players for what has been achieved in 2022/23 up to this point:

“Just as pleasing is the level with good strong performances every week, credit to the group, and it is the group.

“Everyone chipped in again against Ross County. Guys coming into the team have helped.”

The Australian spoke here about the impact of those who do not usually start and one of those was Alexandro Bernabei on Sunday. The Argentine came off the bench to rocket into the top corner and secure three points for Celtic.

It will be intriguing to see if Bernabei or his left back counterpart Greg Taylor gets the nod on Saturday among a number of other dilemmas faced by Postecoglou as he looks to go one step closer to beating the Invincibles’ points tally.
