Police Scotland Investigating Fran Alonso Incident

POLICE SCOTLAND has confirmed they are investigating the incident after the Women’s Glasgow Derby on Monday evening after a Rangers coach appeared to ‘headbutt’ Celtic manager Fran Alonso from behind. [Clyde SSB]

It was the first-ever women’s Glasgow Derby aired on Sky Sports, which ended in dramatic fashion when Celtic’s Caitlan Hayes scored a 99th-minute equaliser.

The scenes on the Celtic bench were brilliant. While the draw didn’t do anything to aid their quest for the title, it reaffirmed their position in second place, which yields Champions League qualification.

It was a triumph for women’s football, and so many were talking about the game in glowing terms in the immediate aftermath.

However, the limelight was quickly taken away from the women when Rangers Coach Craig McPherson charged towards the Celtic coach unprovoked and looked to instigate a fight.

It was quickly broken up by Celtic coaches and players who couldn’t believe the behaviour of McPherson.

The SWPL and The Rangers are yet to comment on the incident. The quicker they deal with this kind of unsavoury behaviour, the better.
