Celtic Reject Late Bid for Young Striker

Celtic have knocked back a loan bid for their 19-year-old striker Joey Dawson from Newport County. [Football Scotland]

The League Two side were hoping to bolster their attack with Joey ahead of the second half of their season but they have been rebuffed by Celtic who don’t want to loan the player out at present.

Joey had a quiet start to the season but since his pivotal substitute role against Rangers in the Lowland League derby, his confidence is sky high. The striker is getting more and more game time under both Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea in the Celtic B setup.

While first team football should normally beprioritised, Joey’s best served staying at Celtic rather than head to League Two down south.

There hasn’t been much chat about Dawson getting first team game time at Celtic this season. Ange Postecoglou spoke about a few young players who could be ready to make the step up in the next 12 months. It remains to be seen if Joey is on that list.
