ANGE POSTECOGLOU believes that Celtic started the second Glasgow derby of the season well but believes that the team’s passing saw the side lose control of the match.
Celtic was comfortable at 1-0 up, and they were looking to add to their advantage, but a mess up at the back from Joe Hart invited unnecessary pressure onto Celtic and invited Rangers into the match.
There were some really slack moments from many players that saw Rangers gain possession and start an attack. In a game like a derby, that’s inexcusable.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Ange Postecoglou said:
“We started the game really well, but we just lost control of it, mainly self-inflicted, because of our passing. We were making mistakes and errors in our passing that we don’t usually do and it allowed them to get back into it.
“They got some momentum with the crowd behind them, particularly in the second half. They took a foothold for 15/20 minutes, and then some great spirit and resilience shown by our lads.
“It’s very easy on a day like this to sort of resign yourself to a fate, but we haven’t done that all year or all last year, and we found a way.”
Both of Rangers’ goals were easily avoidable; whether it be poor defending from Josip Juranovic or carelessly diving in from Carl Starfelt, it just wasn’t good enough.
Celtic still have a huge lead at the top of the table, and that hasn’t changed. The team will analyse the performance, but their main focus will be the game against Kilmarnock at the weekend.
