SFA Announce Glasgow Derby New Year Officials

Celtic head to Ibrox on January 2nd to play their rivals in the second Glasgow Derby of the season.

This will be the first Glasgow Derby where VAR will be in play when the game kicks off.

Officials in the middle of the fixture have to keep a lid on things at the best of times, but now you throw VAR into the equation with the referees who are struggling to use it, and we could be in for fireworks in the new year.

The SFA has today confirmed John Beaton will be the referee for the New Year fixture and the VAR official will be Willie Collum.

Celtic have three games to go before the derby game, but will most certainly head into the tie at the top of the league.

The pressure is on the Ibrox side to get a result in attempt to keep up with the Hoops.

VAR has not been Celtic’s friend. The bhoys have been subject to some dubious VAR decisions which have resulted in penalties against.

Since the break, Rangers have committed the same sort of hand ball infringements and there’s has been zero penalties given against them. Have they changed the rules since the World Cup break?
