Ange Explains Very Popular Pre-Match Decision

Many Celtic fans would have been surprised when the team sheet was released last night to see both Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis feature.

Heading into the game, the Hoops really had nothing to lose with many fans hoping to have seen both players feature long before now.

Although, it was thought that with Giakoumakis playing the full 90 minutes against Hearts in the 4-3 victory he would be left out for this one.

Kyogo appeared to be just playing in behind Giakoumakis and was all around the pitch.

They linked up well with one of the chances Celtic created but Kyogo failed to put the ball in the back of the net.

Speaking after the match, the Celtic boss revealed his decision as to why both started against Shakhtar Donetsk with it being about the opposition more than anything else.

“I had a feeling there wouldn’t be a lot of space out there for us to move them around so having the extra attacking player in there for the opportunities that were going to come our way I thought would maybe give us an advantage,” said Ange Postecoglou as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I thought it worked well for the most part, I thought it helped us with our pressing. I thought we were really aggressive there and again we just lacked a little bit of composure. We won the ball back in good areas but just didn’t take advantage.

“Giako scored and Kyogo had a great chance to get one himself so, but I thought both of them worked hard in the areas we needed them to.”

It will be interesting to see whether both men feature together again for Celtic in the coming weeks as a pairing.

There is still plenty games of football before the World Cup and Kyogo will want to try and impress to be in with a shout of starting for Japan at the tournament.

Had Kyogo tucked his effort away there probably would be very little conversation about playing both with calls to likely do it more often.
