‘He Has Been Unlucky’ – Ange Responds to Player Criticism

KYOGO has come under some criticism in recent weeks, despite scoring seven goals in eight games in the league.

The striker has yet to score his first Champions League goal, which has frustrated many given the chances that have fallen for the striker.

It was expected that Kyogo would play ninety minutes during the week, after he failed to get off the bench against St Johnstone. However, Postecoglou took him off before the seventy minute mark.

The Celtic manager backed Kyogo, and reminded fans of his forgotten contributions. As quoted by Football Scotland, the manager said;

“I don’t think people can be too harsh on him. Last week he set up Jota for a fantastic goal that he created. Champions League goals are hard to come by but I don’t think he has been any less threatening.

“He is still getting into good positions and he has been unlucky on a couple of occasions and I still think he really causes teams problems.

“Domestically we have had to juggle him a bit. People forget he was in great form and then hurt his shoulder which kept him out for a few weeks so he was a little bit disrupted. He is still a player who does very well for us.”

The Celtic striker position is up for debate constantly, with fans divided on who should lead the line. For many, the answer is simple – Kyogo. But others feel Giakouamkis should be playing week-in wee-out through the middle, instead of coming on from off the bench.

The manager clearly prefers Kyogo, and in all honesty, he is the better player. The pair have great attributes, with Giakouamkis an essential player to the Celtic side, but you can’t deny Kyogo contributes more to the team and he should be Celtic’s main striker.
