Ange Postecoglou Reveals Initial Ignorance Attached to His Celtic Move

Since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival to Scottish football last summer, the former Socceroos manager has been a breath of fresh air at Celtic.

He instantly appealed to the Celtic support having shared an upbringing which is connected to the values and creation of the club.

After a long spell away from his homeland having worked in Japan and then moving straight to Scotland, the 57-year old had a chance to go back to Australia during the international break to promote the Sydney Super Cup.

Many Celtic fans watched on as he spoke to different press in Australia with Postecoglou looking far more relaxed and comfortable.

It will be a great pride for Ange Postecoglou to take his team down under as the manager of one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

Many in the press seemed to forget that although it may be a long way away, Australia is not on a different planet with Postecoglou outlining what he knew about the club in a recent interview.

“I knew everything about it. That was the bit that I guess, not surprised, people over there, it was like, you’re coming from the other side of the world; let me tell you about Celtic,” said Ange Postecoglou speaking to Stan Sport.

“But I played in a dressing room with a bunch of guys who grew up in Glasgow and Scotland, and they indoctrinated me all about Celtic.

“I was obsessed with the game, the great sides of football, I knew all about anyway. Celtic was one of those, obviously; with Jock Stein winning the European Cup, they were the first British club to do so.

“A little bit of history there, a bit of the romantic side of the game, so I knew about them.

“I also knew about them in the current sense because when I was national, quite a few of our bhoys played in Scotland, Tommy being at Celtic. Jackson Irvine was playing there [Scotland], Ryan McGowan, so I knew the Scottish League anyway.

“I’ve said it all along, while many saw me as having the bulk of my career on the other side of the world as a disadvantage, for me it was an advantage. I had to work so much harder in terms of my knowledge.

“I hit the ground running; I knew exactly what I was taking on in terms of the club, the history and current status and also the competition I was going to.”

The Celtic fans fell in love with Postecoglou as he has taken them back to the top of Scottish football which also secured a spot in the Champions League group stages for the first time in five years.

The chapter has firmly begun in the Postecoglou era at Celtic and long may it continue.
