Howe Adds Further Depth To Celtic Snub

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has added further comment as to why he didn’t make the switch to Glasgow last summer.

Everything looked set for the former Bournemouth boss to takeover at Celtic until the final hour.

After what had been a terrible campaign with Celtic’s ten in a row dreams imploding supporters didn’t think it could get any worse but it did.

Many were left stunned when a Celtic statement was released stating that although Howe was the candidate the club were hopeful to land the deal couldn’t be done with both parties walking away.

This turned out to be a blessing in disguise with Celtic then swiftly moving for Ange Postecoglou who has been everything and more since arriving in Glasgow last year.

Eddie Howe would eventually land the Newcastle United job upon their takeover and would lead the club to an 11th place finish in the Premier League.

In a recent interview with Alan Shearer, the 44-year old has spoken about the situation last summer and why he turned the opportunity down.

“Celtic was the one job I’d been offered that really appealed. The issue there was my staff. I felt that if I was to come into a pressured job like that, I needed to go in with a sense of stability. I could have recruited new staff, but then you’re working each other out and there’s a transition process where it probably takes three, four, five months. That’s five months too late. I needed my staff with me and we couldn’t get them together,” said Eddie Howe speaking to The Athletic.

Many Celtic fans will see this as a bit of a cop-out answer due the situation which Postecoglou put himself into.

The former Socceroos boss arrived in Glasgow with no backroom staff or support but set about getting to work and rebuilding a Celtic team.

Many have moved on from this debacle with Ange being the man people want in charge at the club.
