Boruc’s Celtic Park Plan

Many Celtic supporters have fond memories of Artur Boruc’s time at the club and it was fitting that the Hoops would provide opposition for his final game.

After weeks of controversy surrounding ticket prices, the 42-year old got a decent send off from two clubs which are close to the former Polish internationals heart.

Boruc had five successful years in Glasgow where he spent majority of his time under the stewardship of Gordon Strachan.

Under Strachan, Celtic experienced a successful spell winning three league titles in a row for the first time since Jock Stein’s side reached the feat in 1969.

There was also some progress in the Champions League as the Hoops reached the last sixteen of the tournament for the very first time in season 2006/7. They would go on to repeat the triumph again the following year with Boruc producing some fabulous displays against the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan amongst others.

Boruc spoke to Celtic TV after the match and reflected on his time at Celtic and his wider career.

“I can feel free finally after 20 years of playing football. I wouldn’t call myself professional, 100% – but I gave everything that I had. I’m really happy and can enjoy my family full-time now which is the main thing for me now.

“It was absolutely a great time for me as well personally  and obviously football wise it was just great (speaking about his time at Celtic). Great European nights, trophies and domestically games against. You know? The opponents in Glasgow. It was just absolutely fantastic for me and for personally my life, it was probably the best.

“If we are talking about football, there was a couple of games I can remember but most of the time it’s the things a part of football which makes me a little bit more happy.

“We had a great group of lads that gave everything every single day on the training ground which made us such a good team at the time.

With Boruc now having a bit more spare time on his hands he would be welcomed back to Celtic Park with open arms and when asked if he planned on returning for a game he said, “Probably more often than I was before.”
