I’ve been a Celtic fan since I was a kid in the early 90s, and what you can always count on during the summer is Celtic and the Ibrox club being linked with the same players.
Why does this happen?
The two clubs have very different scouting networks, so it’s very unlikely they will cross targets.
Agents tout their players to many clubs during the transfer window – many of these players end up on the desk at both Ibrox and Celtic Park. It then gets made into a story by their agents how try and whip up interest in their player.
Stephen Odey is the latest to get this treatment with many Celtic sites and mainstream media outlets reporting a Celtic interest.
When asked about the Celtic and Rangers interest, the player told SunSport “These are big clubs, and it is clear that this is something that I want to be open to.
“But I’m in Randers FC, and right now that’s the only thing that matters. As long as I have not been presented with anything concrete, as I said, I will not let myself be disturbed by it.”
He continued: “If the right club comes, Randers FC has no choice but to let me go.
“But I am happy to be in Randers FC, and that does not change the fact that there are some rumors about other clubs.
From those comments and from what I’ve gathered in my many years of following Celtic both personally and professional, lay, there’s absolutely nothing in this at the moment.
The headline would be, a Rangers players would be open to a Celtic switch, so would many other players. It’s hardly breaking news or worthy of our time.
We find ourselves having to debunk these rumours more and more and holding rumours up to more scrutiny than others do.
Right now, there’s nothing to suggest a deal is on the table.
