Jota told Celtic fans he wouldn’t relish the prospect of playing his former club Benfica in the Champions League, should the Portuguese outfit qualify for the competition.
The winger penned a five-year deal with the Scottish Champions on Friday – putting an end to months of speculation around his future.
Celtic fans are delighted the club have wrapped up a move for Jota – but he hopes they understand if he scored againat Benfica, he wouldn’t celebrate. The Portuguese player reminding people how long he was a Benfica player for and compared it to Kieran Tierney at Celtic.
Jota said: “I don’t want to think about the prospect of playing against them in the Champions League!” He told CelticTV.
“Would I celebrate if I scored against them?

“Coming to Scotland this week was quite a nostalgic moment for me because I’ve left home.
“It’s been fifteen years, not one year, and fifteen years is a lifetime.
“I guess it’s like Kieran Tierney going to Arsenal — everyone kept saying to me that he had left home and it’s the same for me.
“I was on my holidays and I was thinking about what I would do next. I had to make the choice, and I chose Celtic.
“At this moment in my career this was the best step for me and I’m 100 per cent here and focused on doing the job.”
This is fair enough from Jota. If Celtic and Arsenal ever met in a competitive competition, I don’t believe Kieran Tierney would celebrate either if he scored. There’s a level of respect for the club that’s brought him up and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Jota wouldn’t hesitate to score against them, he just wouldn’t be rubbing it in.
The fact the fixture could be a possibility for the Hoops is exciting in itself. If Benfica qualify, there’s certainly a chance we could draw them if they stay away from pot 4.
