Neil Lennon’s ‘Toxic’ Celtic Comment

Neil Lennon has blamed his last season at Celtic on it being ‘toxic’ as he embarks in his new adventure in Cyprus.

The Irishman had been out the game for over a year before landing a job with Cypriot side Omonia.

Neil went on a ‘it wasn’t my fault’ tour of the media shortly after his Celtic dismissal last season which irked so many fans at the time.

Not that supporters were blaming Neil for everything that went wrong but he shouldered a lot of the blame and for contributing to a dismal dressing room atmosphere.

The former Celtic midfielder refutes those claims and believes it was all down to want away players and no fans being in the grounds.

When asked about his time at Celtic and why he’s now back in management – Neil Lennon again went to that line about being ‘toxic’. Not offering to elaborate on what exactly he means by it – given we’ve heard his past comments – it’s again another dig at the support.

Speaking to SunSport, Lennon said: “Look, I have been Celtic manager twice. My last season was toxic and highly pressured, so I feel I can pretty much cope with most situations.

“I love what I’m hearing about the fans here, their emotion and passion for the club. I can’t stop telling people how excited I am about this opportunity.

“I’ve been impressed by everyone at the club — I’ll give my all to bring success to Omonia Nicosia.”

Neil’s refusal to accept blame is a real sticking point for many fans.

We wish him all the best in Cyprus, but maybe one day he’ll reflect on the 20/21 season and realise he got many things wrong.
