O’Riley Insists Squad Are Thriving As Celts Look To Kick On

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has insisted that sitting on top spot in the Scottish Premiership will inspire himself and his teammates going forward, as the Hoops look to kick on.

The 21-year old has made an impressive start to life in Glasgow, playing a major part in the continuation of the excellent form of Ange Postecoglou’s side since the return from the winter break.

Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday’s trip to Motherwell, O’Riley stated that the players are taking things one game at a game, and sitting top of the Premiership will inspire Celts to kick on from here.

“It really inspires all of us to keep pushing each other to chase the final outcome, which we all know is hopefully winning the league. But at the same time, we can’t get too carried away,” he said, as quoted by Sun Sport.

“It’s only one game, and we’ve got another one on Sunday at Motherwell to focus on now.

“But, of course, it’s nice to strive for the best, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.

“We would rather be first than second, that goes without saying.

“It puts us in a position where we are the people who control our own outcome now.

“We can’t rely on anyone else to drop points, so that’s definitely a better position to be in and one we want to continue to be in for the rest of the season.

“That’s the plan, but at the same time, we can’t get carried away with it.

“We need to take it one game at a time and go from there.”

Although Postecoglou and his squad will have enjoyed the victory midweek, the mentality and message since that win has been clear – the most important thing is now the next game.

With 14 games to go in the league season, things are now in Celtic’s hands, and that is the way we want things to be. So, it is good to hear that is what the focus remains on for this group of players.

Hopefully, O’Riley and his teammates can keep up that good form, starting with another win away from home against Motherwell on Sunday.
