Midfielder To Be ‘Assessed’ Ahead Of Aberdeen Fixture

Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton will be ‘assessed’ ahead of the Hoops fixture with Aberdeen this weekend, after coming off injured against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night.

In recent weeks, we have seen Bitton slot back into his more natural midfield position, and he has gone on to show that he can be very useful to Ange Postecoglou from that area of the park.

On Thursday evening, though, he was forced off with an injury issue, being replaced by James McCarthy.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Ange gave the latest on the midfielder’s injury as he expressed his disappointment at having to bring the 30-year old off in the 3-2 defeat in Leverkusen.

“We will assess him, but he has been pretty influential for us and did well for the second goal in Germany to help set it up.

“It was disappointing to have to take him off because I just felt we needed him in there just to help us control that middle of the park.

“But I thought James McCarthy did okay when he came on. I was going to put him on anyway and I had to when we took Nir off.”

In the last few years, with most of his football being played at the centre of defence, I am not sure many saw this rejuvenation for Bitton in midfield coming.

However, in the last few fixtures, the Israeli internationalist has really shown his worth in that area of the pitch and was unfortunate to pick up a knock and be forced off.

Thankfully, it looks like we could be seeing the return of Tom Rogic this weekend, but hopefully, the injury knock does not force Bitton out of action for several weeks.
