Sky Sports Journalist Confirms Celtic’s Summer Transfer Bargain

SKY SPORTS man Anthony Joseph has claimed he was told Gorgios Giakoumakis would have been out of Celtic’s price range had Venlo managed to stave off relegation from the Dutch top flight.

Joseph rightly points out that if any one of us were told Celtic could grab the top scorer in of the Eredivisie for only £2.5m – Celtic fans would be clamouring to get the deal done.

It’s what Celtic have managed to do, but they were very fortunate to land the Greek striker on a bargain deal.

The Sky Sports reporter said Venlo were anticipating selling the player for around €10m if they had managed to stay in the Dutch top flight.

“If I was to tell you Celtic can sign the top scorer of the Eredivisie for less than £2.5 million, on paper,  forget who it is, you’d be saying, yes get him!” Joseph told The Celtic Exchange Podcast.

“And that’s what they’ve done. He was available for that price due to Venlo being relegated. Had they not been relegated, I was told they were looking for €10 million for him.”

Giakoumakis could make his Celtic bow at the weekend in front of a sell out crowd if Ange Postecoglou thinks the striker is ready to contribute.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s injury status is unclear which could pave the way for a starting XI place for the striker.

We will have to wait and see. Gorgios offers something much different from Kyogo up front and could lap up service from the likes of Abada and Callum McGregor.
