Reported Celtic target Liam Scales has spoken out for the first time about his current future at Shamrock Rovers amidst interest from several clubs.
As quoted by Glasgow Live, when questioned about his future, the Irishman kept his cards close to his chest regarding what club he could be making a possible move to, but he did admit he is currently weighing up his options stating ‘anything can happen’.
“I’m not sure, but I’d say so. Anything can happen.
“There’s interest, and that’s public. I’m weighing up my options and taking my time. Until I make that decision, I’m a Rovers player.
“I plan on performing well week in, week out as long as I’m here and until anything comes of that. But I’m just focusing on my performance.
“I have to work hard to stay in the team, but the interest is flattering; of course it is. But I don’t want it to be a distraction.
“I had it at UCD in the past (when he was close to joining Bristol Rovers), and it affected my performance. So if there is any news, we’ll talk about it then.”
Many fans were left a bit underwhelmed by the links to the left-sided defender who can play in several different positions and is currently plying his trade with Rovers in the Irish league.
However, with interest from English Premier League sides such as Southampton and Norwich, it does look like Scales is a player in demand and possibly has the talent to play at a higher level.
At one stage, the 23-year old also had a trial with English giants Manchester City but turned down the chance to move down south to play first-team football.
The Hoops move for the defender seems to have gone quiet at this stage. So, it remains to be seen whether or not Scales could be making a move to Scotland come the end of the summer window.
