Opinion: One Major Surprise About Celtic’s Transfer Window

Before this pre-season got underway, I was touting Celtic would likely go into the domestic market for at least one signing this summer.

My argument being there is talent to be had in the SPFL and given how many players we needed to bring in and the logistics of doing so during a pandemic – it would make sense to have some reinforcements who know the league very well.

Not to mention there would be no settling in period and no isolation needed for their inclusion into the first team.

Players like Josh Doig, Kevin Nisbet and Ali McCann. There are players who can do a job for the Hoops and develop at the same time.

Yet, we’ve heard very little in the way of rumour or speculation about the Hoops delving into this market. We have gone into the Israeli, Russian and Japanese league in the search of first team stars.

Should we be looking closer to home?

We could be jumping the gun and the club are looking to do business in Scotland down the line. The window is open until the end of August – we still have a number of positions to fill and it would certainly be wise to look closer to home.
