Ange Postecoglou Responds to Leigh Griffiths Celtic Park Booing

Ange Postecoglou has refused to make any sort of plea to the Celtic supporters who booed Leigh Griffiths on Saturday afternoon.

There was large pockets of fans jeering the Celtic striker after he was subject to a police investigation surrounding an online incident. There was no criminality found but there are fans who believe the front man’s actions are deserving of him getting the boot.

There were other Celtic Fans in the ground who cheered to try and drown out the boos – it made for an embarrassing moment.

It’s a side show and one that Celtic don’t need.

However, the manager was asked if he would say anything to the Celtic support to try and quell the booing – Ange was not up for entertaining that.

‘That’s going to be down to Leigh and his performances.” Ange told MailSport.

‘If he works hard at training and produces the kind of football he can, scoring goals, I’m sure the crowd will get behind him.

‘I won’t be telling the Celtic supporters anything. They’ve followed this club a lot longer than I’ve been here. My job is to produce a team they’re proud of and we let them down today.

‘Maybe it is a big challenge for him but that’s what he wanted. He had a choice, he didn’t have to come back.

‘He wanted to come back and play for the club again. He wanted to contribute. When you make that decision, you embrace everything that comes along with it.’

Leigh looked rattled on the pitch after the jeering. This is a support base who have cheered this lad onto the field when he’s went through some very tough times.

It’s hard to see a way back for Leigh at the club. He could be come more marginalised as the months go on. Celtic need to look to the future and it’s more than likely, after this season, Leigh will move on.
