Olivier Ntcham has been looking to leave Celtic for quite some time. The midfielder went out on loan to Marseille last season and hoped to win a permanent deal. In the end, his manager quit over his signing to the French club and he was rarely played.
Over the course of this summer, the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Greece, but that never materialised. In the end, Oli was surprisingly seen getting on a plane with the rest of the Celtic squad heading to Wales for their pre-season camp.
The Frenchman played the second half of Celtic’s win against Charlton at the weekend and Ange Postecoglou is giving Ntcham the same fresh start treatment the rest of the players are being afforded.
Will Oli stay for the season?
According to Greek publication Sportime, AEK Athens tried one last time to lure the midfielder to the club, but the Celtic player’s representatives have told the Greek outfit their man is staying put in Scotland after all.
This would fit in with what new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou told Sunsport at the weekend:
“I HAD CHATS WITH HIM AND HE SAID HE WANTED TO COME BACK AND MAKE AN IMPRESSION THIS YEAR.
“I TAKE THAT AT FACE VALUE. HE HAS BEEN GOOD AT TRAINING.
“HE IS LACKING A BIT OF MATCH TOUCH AND FITNESS BUT HE IS PART OF THE SQUAD AND HOPEFULLY HE CAN MAKE AN IMPACT THIS YEAR.”
I don’t think there’s any danger of Ntcham signing a new Celtic deal, it looks like he will run down his contract and sign a pre-contract with a club of his choosing after the new year.
