‘Absolutely’, ‘100%’ – Scott McDonald Makes Celtic Ibrox Plea

Scott McDonald has backed his former teammate Scott Brown to start the Glasgow Derby on Sunday in what will be his final bow in the fixture as a player.

Sentiment will take precedence over anything else on the day and while there’s a legitimate argument for Scott starting on the bench – it won’t happen.

Asked if Scott Brown should start the game at Ibrox, McDonald was 100% all-in on the idea.

“Absolutely!” He told The Huddle Podcast.

“Scott is a natural leader and I don’t think at the moment anyone would grudge Scott playing in this game.

“And it would be a great fitting moment if he was to get a victory at Ibrox in his last ever game.

“So I think everyone would be 100% behind Scott to play this game — fans, supporters, the club.

“Everyone says it’s a dead rubber but for a lot of reasons it’s not.

“For Rangers the unbeaten run, for Celtic it being Scott Brown’s last game.

“The game will still have a really good edge to it.”

Scott has bossed this fixture over the years and has certainly got more positive memories than negative ones. From the creation of the famous Broony celebration to having the entire Gers squad on strings the day he got Alfredo Morelos sent off and incensed Andy Halliday.

As much as I believe Soro should get the nod, the sentimental part of me wants to see Scott one last time in the derby. Whether that will help yield a result or not remains to be seen.

It’s up to the bhoys to give us a big performance and hand this team their first defeat of the season.
