Former Celtic hero Simon Donnelly believes Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer is worth more than the £8m reported valuation from Newcastle [MailSport] which was touted over the weekend.
Speaking on The Huddle podcast, Simon rightly pointed out, if Kris Ajer was going from one EPL club to another he would go for a fee upwards of £20m.
Asked if he thought the £8m fee would be realistic, Simon made it clear it should be more:
“I think the only way you can describe it as realistic is because of where he’s playing just now.
“I think you’re held to ransom a wee bit in our division
“If this was Kris Ajer going from another Premier League club he could quite easily be going for £18-£20m.
“It’s the thing with Scottish football, people will try and come in and take players on the cheap.
“To answer your question I think he’s probably worth more than that (£8m)”
I think the majority of Celtic fans would share the former Celtic player’s sentiment.
Too many times we sell players down south and within a year there are people bragging about how they got a bargain from the Hoops.
Celtic need to get a good going rate for their star men. We have proven Celtic is a potent breeding ground for top talent and we should not be looked at as easy targets to pick up players at relatively low fees.
Ajer has all the potential in the world to be a top defender, he’s only 22, we must push for the very best amount we can get.
