It’s being claimed UEFA are set to relax Financial Fairplay rules to appease the top clubs in Europe and thus allowing the gap between the richest clubs and leagues and smaller ones to widen.
Reports from Italian publication Gazzetta suggest the European governing body are set to backtrack.
It means the richer clubs who have owners with deep pockets will be able to run riot without much UEFA red tape.
It’s bad news for clubs like Celtic. If we manage to make the Champions League in the future we’re going to come up against even more formidable opposition with very little recourse to do anything about it.
The Europa League is our level under the circumstances in which we operate. We had a torrid time this season in the competition but topped our group the season prior.
Ultimately, Celtic need to get among the Champions League groups in future with the revenue for just being there. Qualifying once for the competition gives Celtic more revenue in one season than they would get for winning the SPFL for 15 years on the bounce.
