Game Changing Celtic Proposal Set to Fail; Reports

According to reports this evening, Celtic and their Glasgow rivals proposal to have colt teams join the lower leagues looks set to fail because of fan backlash from clubs in the bottom division.

According to RecordSport, although these clubs would benefit financially over five years if they voted the proposal through, they believe they could alienate their fans by allowing this to go ahead.

The proposal would see Celtic and the Ibrox club have a reserve side in League two, they would not be allowed to be promoted to the Championship and they would have an age restriction of 21.

It needs to be cited through by both the SFA and SPFL but it doesn’t look as if it will go through.

Many are citing Hibernian’s attempts to forge a very close partnership with Stenhousemuir as the way forward and if this proposal doesn’t go through then maybe Celtic need to look at a mutually beneficial parent club structure with a lower league side.

Where the Hoops could send four or five loan players to a club and have them get proper game time.

The issue with that would be Celtic having little control over what they’re taught, and the formation and philosophy of the club they’re on loan to. A colt side wouldn’t have that problem.
