Opinion: Dominic McKay’s First Major Celtic Deal

NEIL LENNON dropped the news Christopher Jullien will be out for up to nine months which will take us well beyond the start of next season.

The Frenchman being ruled out that long means Celtic have a major task on their hands trying to piece together a defence for the Champions League qualifiers in mid-July.

We already need new defenders in but Jullien’s injury puts us into the crisis category when it comes to having a stable backline, something which has harmed us a lot this season.

If Dominic Mckay is paying attention, the incoming chief executive should be reaching out to Kristoffer Ajer’s agent and find out what it would take to keep the Norweigan ar the club for another season.

Ajer has been a stand out in a poor season and even though he has one eye on a move away, you wouldn’t know it by the shift he puts in on any given matchday.

The defender is aspiring for big things, but if Dominic could sign Ajer to a new deal with a release fee clause at the end of next season, it would prove a masterstroke.

Ajer is still young and could afford to stay at Celtic another season if the incentives were there.

Having the big man lead the line for one more season as we look to regain our rightful place as Scotland’s top side would be easier and cheaper than trying to replace him.

McKay could give the supporters a major boost by getting that deal done.
