Leigh Griffiths has explained his latest absence from the first team over the past two weeks, revealing a niggling injury has kept him out of the side.
The striker had to go for a scan after he pulled up in training.
Leigh has not had much game time this season. After coming back unfit after lockdown then injuring himself pushing too hard in training to get his fitness back has cost him a lot of game time.
There’s no doubt in many fans minds, Leigh is the type of striker we need when it comes to games against St Johnstone, Dundee Utd etc. Someone who can eek out a goal when we’re up against it.
Celtic are up against St Johnstone on Sunday afternoon and according to Leigh, he’ll be good to go if the manager selects him.
Speaking about his latest injury, and where he’s at, Leigh told Record Sport he’s ready to go. Not only that but he believes starting games would do wonders for his fitness.
“I was just getting into a good rhythm and getting minutes on the pitch. Hopefully I can get a few more on Sunday and kick on. It happened in training, it just felt a wee bit sore. I couldn’t train so I had to go for a scan on it but luckily it came back all clear.
“These little niggly injuries are so frustrating, especially now when I haven’t been able to help the team. Hopefully I’m back and I can get a good run of games between now and the New Year.
“I’ve been training the last few days while the boys were in Milan. And before the injury I was in a good place, I was training well every day. I’ve been working hard on my fitness and that was coming back to its maximum.
“Hopefully I’m not far away from that again and if the gaffer calls upon me I will be ready to go. If I was starting games, it would be an ideal opportunity to get more fitness into me”
Hopefully he can make a big contribution going forward and Celtic can start to look like them old selves shortly.
