Celtic Target Set for Agent Talks

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has said he hopes Celtic target, Alfie Doughty will have a rethink and sign a new deal at the League One side to extend his stay long-term.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, Doughty was heavily linked to the Scottish Champions in the summer, with Neil Lennon’s side reportedly have three bids rejected for the left-sided player. However, Bowyer has pleaded with the 20-year old, to think about the decision and sign a new deal.

“We’ve just got to see where we’re at with Alfie and his agent but we’re hopeful that we can get something done there. Like I’ve said before, this is the right place for him to be at the moment – especially with his injury as well now.

“He needs to focus on just getting back and having that security behind him, I think. Hopefully, we can get that one done.”

With Doughty facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, it may give him some time to think about his current contract situation.

Bowyer has always insisted he doesn’t believe Scottish Football is a good place for him to develop as a player and spending his time at the recently relegated League One side will.

It is thought, that Neil Lennon is a fan of the left-sided Englishman and likewise, Doughty is interested in joining up with the hoops. January will certainly be an interesting period to see if the club can get this deal wrapped up on a pre-contract basis.
