The Glasgow Derby is just over a week away, it will be an unfamiliar derby in many ways but one familiar face will be the man in the middle with the SFA announcing John Beaton has been handed the tie.
John Beaton came under a lot of criticism for his refereeing performance in prior derbies and there was an uproar on social media when the whistler appeared to be looking delighted in a well known supporters bar after refereeing a derby.
We always need a strong referee for these games and one which will not get drawn into the spectacle it can be.
This time, there will be no raucous crowds in the stadium and the referee will take on greater importance. Calling fouls out and making the right calls will be vital.
We have seen a lot of penalties been given out in recent week to a particular team in Glasgow. The last penalty given being very soft to say the least, we expect competency next Saturday.
