It is being reported that Odsonne Edouard is keen to sign a new Celtic contract BUT there is one thing the player and his agent apparently want as part of any deal – a minimum fee release clause.
Edouard has two years left of his current Celtic deal, which means if Celtic keep him this summer without signing him to a new deal, his value diminishes going into his final year. To sign the striker up on a new, more lucrative deal would mean Celtic can keep Eddy this season with no fear of him being undervalued next year.
However, according to Football Insider, the player is looking for a minimum fee release clause which would set his price for next season. There would be no negotiations or back and forth, his minimum fee would be the price and clubs in pursuit would be made aware.
It’s not a bad idea if the release clause they’re asking for falls in line with Celtic’s valuation. The only problem would be is if Eddy was somehow to get to the Euro’s next year and his fee could sky rocket but Celtic would be locked into a lower deal.
It’s the decisions Peter Lawwell must make.
