In one of the more random things you’ll read today, Celtic were name checked in the goodbye message to Ajax fans from Van de Beek as he made a £39m move to Manchester Utd.
Van de Beek has been an outstanding player for the Dutch club and he now moves on to the Premier League where he can go to the next level.
Not before he said goodbye to the Ajax support, the player detailed how his dream was always to pull on the Ajax jersey. He mentions the first game his father took him to – Ajax vs Celtic in the Amsterdam arena. Beek said he was hooked after that!

Celtic have played Ajax quite a few times in the last 20 years. We’re unsure of what game Van de Beek was talking about. If he went to the game when he was four in 2001, it would have been the match where Celtic beat Ajax on that famous night in Amsterdam when Didier Agathe made a name for himself.
The next tie after that wasn’t until 2014 which would have made him seventeen, it’s more likely he meant the 2001 game. What a night that was! I’m surprised he didn’t want to pull on a Celtic jersey after that.
