Jason Leitch has today provided fans with an update as to why there will be three separate test events for the slow, gradual return of fans into grounds.
On the 12th of September, it is expected that Rangers vs Dundee United, Ross County vs Celtic and St Mirren vs Hibernian will play host to the first trial events to take place within Scottish Football.
When speaking on BBC Sportsound, Leitch explained the logic behind having three different fan testing events and warned that even if these are a success, every other club would have to prove their stands are ‘COVID-Secure’ before being given the green light.
“I think it’s obvious if you’re going to test in football, it would seem sensible to do it in more than one place, wouldn’t it?
Football is such a varied scale. You’ve got these two massive stadia in Glasgow. Then you go down one level and you get to Pittodrie, Hearts and Hibs. And then you go down another level again and now you’re in Stranraer or wherever.
The other thing, remember, is no stadium is going to get the go ahead until their plans are signed off. Each stadia in turn will have to prove its safe, even if we’ve done a larger event for the whole country.”
Last night, the first test event in Rugby, with fans in stadia took place at Murrayfield in a match between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh. There was around 700 spectators allowed, with physical distancing.
However, it is expected to be even less than that when it comes to football at all three of the Premiership games being used for testing. Only 300 supporters will be allowed inside the grounds in Govan, Dingwall and Paisley.
This is hopefully the right step we have been waiting for, in regards to finally getting supporters back watching football once again. Hopefully, these events will go ahead and we can see fans back in Paradise soon.
