DAVIE PROVAN was not impressed with former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson’s suggestion that should Neil deliver ten in a row, he would be up there with Jock Stein in Celtic folklore.
The Sky Sports pundit who regularly calls out people for howling at the moon while he himself howls at the moon has tried to put the potential achievement into perspective.
Provan is correct that Stein saw the nine in a row run from start to finish which is amazing in itself. However, if Neil Lennon does deliver ten in a row and given all the history he has made with the club over the years, he deserves to be in that bracket.
Provan disagrees:
“Ten-in-a-row fever already has some barking at the moon.” he told SunSport.
“Former Celts midfielder Alan Thompson claims Lennon will be up there with Jock Stein if he gets the job done.
“Do us a favour Thommo. Stein delivered all nine himself against much better opposition.
“That’s taking nothing away from Lenny, who has made a huge contribution towards The Ten.
“But he’s savvy enough to know it wouldn’t look at Stein’s achievement.”
Stein delivered the holy grail and nine in a row, that puts him at the top, but Neil Lennon’s achievements as a player and manager shouldn’t be disparaged. In the modern era, the manager has done exceedingly well and has to be up there if the ten is delivered.
Provan’s columns on SunSport is just full of Celtic rants every week, telling us ‘how it is’ when the Sky Sports man seems distanced from our product. It’s quite impressive the negativity he can squeeze out of a club who have won eleven trophies on the bounce.
