CELTIC have been linked with a move for striker Ivan Toney in recent weeks. The Peterborough striker has been sensational for his club and has caught the attention of many clubs.
According to chairman Barry Fry, the club has now allowed Toney to thrash out a deal with an unnamed club with a fee just being agreed. However, he stressed it wasn’t Celtic but he DID put a phone call into Celtic Park to let them know about the situation.
“We have given a club permission to speak to Ivan because they met our valuation.” Fry told SunSport.
“It’s not Celtic but, out of courtesy, I let Celtic know what had happened.
“They asked to be kept informed and we informed them. I haven’t heard from them since then.”
There was obviously interest from Celtic but with a reported valuation of £11m, it was never going to be likely. This is a mother insight into how the transfer market is going. We dread to think what Gary Hooper would have cost us back when Neil Lennon was in charge the first time when we were interested in the striker. Lower league clubs are asking for more but then again, so are Celtic. We have watched the club smash their transfer fee received record in two consecutive seasons.
So Toney will not be heading to Celtic.
