Scottish Cup Semi-Final Throws Up Cup Tied Question

Celtic not keeping a hold of Jonny Hayes this summer was a surprise but it wasn’t earth-shattering news. The Irishman put in some top shifts last season to help the club on their way to nine in a row.

However, since his departure and subsequent return to Aberdeen this week, we’ve came to the realisation that if last seasons Scottish Cup is to be played in the coming months – a player who would have been fighting to win another treble will be on the opposite side.

The SFA have said on several occasions this seasons cup will be played to a finish but they would rather do it with supporters in the ground. This means the Scottish Cup could be played into next season.

With circumstances outwith anyone’s control, will Jonny’s case mean he is cup-tied for the game? Would that also give way for Aberdeen to say any new Celtic signings can’t play in the game? Presumably not, and you’d hope common sense would prevail.

For Celtic, the likes of Fraser Forster, Elyounoussi and even Jozo Simunovic who could have played in the tie might not because they are no longer contracted to the club. It’s going to be a strange one, to say the very least.
