MARTIN O’Neill was on Sportsound on Sunday talking about some of the great times he had in Scotland.
The Irishman is 15-years removed from his spell at Celtic where he paved the way for others to follow. He was the first Celtic manager of the modern era to bring sustained good times back to the Hoops support with a team lineup which consisted of Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Neil Lennon, Paul Lambert – to name a few.
O’Neill was on form talking to Sportsound but it was at the end of the interview he dropped a belter of a comment.
Asked by Chic Young if he misses the insanity of Scottish football – the former Celtic boss replied saying he misses being told he was lucky by Jim Traynor after winning games and how it’s funny the journalist made it to a job at Ibrox in the end.
“The insanity? You are right about that. Some things I definitely miss.” O’Neill told SportSound as cited by SunSport.
“I miss us going up to Pittodrie and beating Aberdeen 3-0 and the Daily Record saying ‘Celtic lucky again’. I love it.
“And James Traynor for years and years says he supports Third Lanark or something, and then he’s working at Rangers. What a change.
“I love it, it was great days.”
O’Neill won a treble in his first season as Celtic boss, it was the only treble of this Millenium until the last three seasons!
