Former Celtic player Yousouf Mulumbu told RecordSport he should have made better decisions over the past year with hindsight.
The midfielder has been out of the game since Celtic released him when Neil Lennon came back to the club.
Brought in as back up for Broony in a bit of a panic buy situation, Mulumbu never really got any game time.
Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton didn’t have the most succesful run of bringing good players to the club. Rodgers brought the players already at the club up another level for the most part with some talent sprinkled in.
Mulumbu could be one of the worst Celtic signings of the Rodgers era. Marvin Compper probably takes that unfortunate moniker but the midfielder isn’t far behind.
It seems silly that we offered the player a two year deal at the time.
Speaking now, the player has spent so much time out of the game and reveals he rejected offers.
“I was on loan at Kilmarnock from Celtic and then I went to play for at the Cup of Nations and it went well.
“When I came back there were offers from clubs in Turkey, but I wanted to play in a good league, like the English Championship or Ligue 1.
“So I decided to wait until a suitable offer came in. I was very demanding and decided to wait because there were only certain clubs I wanted to play for.
“Looking back, had I known what would happen, I should have thought more about certain offers.
“I am better known in the UK than in France because I have spent most of my career there.
“Football is stopped for everyone, so I’m at a standstill like everyone else. I am keeping in shape and remain patient.
“I trained with Birmingham City and everything was going well before the virus and I have to send my data to their fitness team. So I will have to wait and see what happens when football returns.”
There have been many players who have come to Celtic over the years in the same position as Broony and failed miserably to dislodge him.
There’s no shame in that whatsoever, especially over the past three years when the Celtic captain has been on another level.
