Ally McCoist joked that Celtic get ‘enough help’ from referees during the TalkSport morning show on Monday. A comment lacking in complete self-awareness from the former Ibrox boss.
McCoist made the comment when they had former top whistler, Dermot Gallagher, on the show and he was asked by Laura Woods, who he supported.
Dermot’s answer, “Celtic” as cited by RecordSport.
The former Gers boss quickly quipped.
“They’ve got enough help up here with referees without you mate.”
Gallagher is a regular on Sky Sports during the football season when he does ‘Ref Watch’ – a segment where he looks at refereeing decisions up and down the country, giving his honest opinion.
For Ally, of all people, to make that joke is funny in itself.
Celtic have had a rough season with decisions going against them. Some crazy penalty decisions not being given.
The level of refereeing in Scotland isn’t the best. We have part-time officials, who don’t have the luxury of getting better at their craft on a daily basis like referees in other leagues.
