‘Best decision of my life’ – Former Celt Hits Back at Contract ‘Promise’

It has been a long time since we saw him in the Hoops of green and white but it’s safe to say, Celtic has made a lasting impression of Joe Ledley.

Leaving his boyhood team Cardiff to head to Celtic wouldn’t have been an easy decision at the time but years later the Welshman claimed it was the best decision of his life.

Joe spent three seasons at Celtic, helping Neil Lennon and his teammates win trophies and send us on our way for the ten.

During the shutdown, a lot of things are coming out which would have probably been consigned to the past if we had current football to discuss. However, former Cardiff Chairman Steve Borley claimed Joe turned his back on Cardiff and was ‘hell bent’ on a move to Celtic with his agent pulling the strings.

Borley wrote on Twitter:

“I did my best to persuade Joe to stay and club to offer him a deal which at the time would have made him highest paid player but we had a new CEO who did not understand the transfer rules and an agent who was hell bent on moving him to Celtic.

“Stoke were very keen as well.”

Joe Ledley was quick to rebuttal this claim with the midfielder claiming the promises made to him were never really forthcoming with the Welsh side.

“Steve I remember the meeting well.I was never going to be the highest paid player.” Joe said on Twitter.

“I respected you – as you were the only person to discuss any promised ‘contract’.”

Someone then asked Joe if he was glad he made the move to Celtic Park, to which Joe responded.

“Best decision of my life. I loved every minute of it.” he REPLIED.
