UEFA Reveal Fresh Parkhead Punishment

Celtic’s 2020 surge was only hampered by one team when the Bhoys met FC Copenhagen at the end of February in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage. A week earlier the Hoops had earned a 1-1 draw in Denmark and Celtic fans had high hopes of progress into the last 16 of the competition.

Unfortunately, a Celtic collapse took place towards the end of the game and the Danes ran out 3-1 winners knocking out the Bhoys. Michael Santos who scored the first goal for the visitors only to be later accused and found guilty of an assault involving match stewards and police.

The incident involved two of the Copenhagen goalscorers on the night, Santos and Pep Biel.

An official was alleged to have grabbed Pep Biel after his goal put the Danes 2-1 in front and there was turmoil in front of the away fan section. Santos got involved and both players were said to be charged.

At first, it looked like nothing and an overreaction but UEFA has had time to view the incident and deemed it worthy of a three-match ban for the Uruguayan Santos only a few days ago.

A UEFA statement read: “The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body have decided: To suspend the FC Copenhagen player, Michael Santos, for a total of three (3) UEFA club competition matches (including any matches previously and automatically served by the player to date) for which he would be otherwise eligible, for assaulting another person present at the match.”
