Hearts owner Ann Budge has said she’s been left bitterly disappointed in the handling and outcome of the SPFL proposal which could see her club relegated from the top flight in the coming days.
The SPFL finally managed to get their proposal through to call time on all the lower leagues while keeping the SPFL open longer in the hope games can be played.
However, Budge isn’t happy that Hearts have been put in this situation.
The Hearts owner will now sit down with Hamilton chief Les Gray in a reconstruction task force which could see the club stay up and the league made bigger.
But not even that he softened the blow of Wednesday’s decision. Budge has claimed the SPFL have made massive errors.
“Yesterday afternoon’s announcement that Dundee FC has re-cast its vote, in support of the SPFL’s written resolution of 8 April leaves me both disillusioned and bitterly disappointed,” Budge told BBC.
“The reasons for Hearts and others voting against this resolution have been well-documented and, sadly, anyone who believes this decision will draw a line under the whole matter, is in my opinion being optimistic indeed.
“Suffice to say that I believe the SPFL should have admitted that errors had been made in the handling of this resolution, withdrawn it and asked clubs to revote. The outcome may have been the same but at least some of the criticisms would have been addressed.”
Celtic have been very silent during this whole process. Their preference has always for the games to be played and for clubs to get back onto the field. The reality is slowly sinking in that this looks impossible during the current climate.
There’s an opportunity for Celtic to be champions and Hearts to stay up if they get reconstruction correct.
