Nothing is off the table when it comes to how we end the current season. Unprecedented times give way to unprecedented decisions.
With the football shut down, we’re all trying to make sense of what’s going on and how we can get back to football.
One of the big questions has been introducing closed door football in attempt to get fixtures played.
If there was a way of making the risk minimal to the players and anyone at the game it would stand to reason we could get fixtures sorted that way.
However, the SFA and SPFL working group have gave their reasoning for not wanting this scenario to play out.
Here’s what the website says:
Why couldn’t SPFL matches be played behind closed doors/televised, where practical?
This was one of the options considered and an approach that has been adopted in various countries. However, it was the unanimous view of the Scottish FA Board that this approach could compromise the health and safety of other key stakeholders, not least players, match officials and staff, as well as necessitating the attendance of emergency services and medical staff.
We’re running out of options and ways around the season coming to a conclusion with football being played.
The Scottish approach will mirror anything the English league comes up with so I’d keep an eye on what the FA are doing south of the border.
