UEFA Call History Making Meeting

UEFA have confirmed they will hold a history making meeting with ALL 55 member associations on Tuesday as they thrash out the way forward for football in these unprecedented times.

The beautiful game has been shutdown because of the coronavirus pandemic and right now, there’s so much uncertainty when it comes to what happens next.

The arguments of how to bring this season to a conclusion is already well underway but beyond that, a timeline for the return of football and the pile up of competitions also is a major headache for the governing body.

This seasons Champions League and Europa League are unfinished but it’s early July when qualifiers start for next season competitions. Then there’s Euro 2020 which is supposed to start in June, right now, this looks as if it could be moved to the summer of 2021.

What is clear is UEFA will hold a video conference with everyone from the SPFL to La Liga reps to discuss the way forward as confirmed by their website.

In the light of the ongoing developments in the spread of COVID-19 across Europe and the changing analysis of the World Health Organisation, UEFA has today invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to attend meetings by videoconference on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020.

Further communication will be made following those meetings.
